The God Bullies returned in 2024 with “I Am Mighty,” a powerful noise rock statement. The song opens As Above, So Below, their first studio album in 30 years. Moreover, it marked a major comeback for the Michigan band after their 1995 breakup. Frontman Mike Hard revived the God Bullies with a new lineup. He remains the only constant member throughout the band’s history. Since forming, 13 musicians have passed through the group’s ranks. Consequently, “I Am Mighty” connects the band’s early aggression with its modern return.
Recorded at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago, As Above, So Below captures a raw, forceful sound. Sanford Parker co-produced and engineered the album. Instead of relying on heavy vocal effects, the production keeps the band’s live energy intact. As a result, “I Am Mighty” feels immediate and confrontational. Hard delivers an intense sermon that targets false prophets and corrupt power. Furthermore, the God Bullies use their music to mock organized religion, political corruption, and white supremacy. The song’s declaration of survival gives the track an especially defiant edge.
Released by Reptilian Records on October 4, 2024, As Above, So Below represents a new chapter. At the same time, it recalls the band’s influential 1990s noise rock roots. “I Am Mighty” sets that tone from the opening track. Therefore, the album works as both a comeback and a continuation. Director Scott Kodrik brings the song to the screen with cinematographer and editor Julian Mackiewicz. Isabelle Berg served as first assistant director, while Ian O’Harris handled minor post-production edits. Together, they complement the song’s harsh and uncompromising character.
