Today’s video of the day is the Das Ich – “Destillat” released in 1998.
Formed in Bayreuth in 1989, Das Ich became a key force in Germany’s Neue Deutsche Todeskunst scene. Founders Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm blended darkwave, industrial, and theatrical music. Early releases such as Die Propheten and Staub established their intense sound. However, “Destillat” pushed the band toward a harder electronic direction.
Released in 1998, “Destillat” appears on Egodram, their fifth studio album. The song replaced much of their earlier orchestral atmosphere with pounding electronic rhythms. As a result, Das Ich reached a wider audience across gothic and industrial clubs. The track also received a major remix from VNV Nation. That version appeared on Re-Laborat in 1999 and added even more dance-floor energy. Together, these versions helped define Das Ich’s club-oriented era.
The “Destillat” video matches the band’s theatrical identity with striking, cinematic imagery. Meanwhile, its dark electronic pulse reflects the changing sound of Egodram. The album connects naturally with Das Ich’s earlier darkwave work while pointing toward later releases. Albums such as Antichrist and Morgenrot continued developing their industrial and electronic intensity. Tragically, Bruno Kramm died on 25 September 2026, aged 58, shortly after performing in Granada, Spain. His passing adds new weight to “Destillat” and its place in Das Ich’s enduring legacy.
