Night in Athens presents “Words Unspoken,” a haunting darkwave and minimal synth track by Tina Boleti. The London-based, Greek-born artist released the song as a lead single in 2024. However, the video is listed as a 2023 release. Boleti created Night in Athens during the 2020 lockdown in her East London bedroom. She began the project as a way to exorcise personal demons through music. Before that, she played keyboards and drums in London and Greek punk bands. As a result, her electronic work carries a strong DIY and post-punk spirit.
“Words Unspoken” appears on Wasted Reflektions, released by Wave Records on July 1, 2024. The album brings together ideas Boleti developed over roughly a decade. At the time, she lacked the production skills and resources to complete them. Now, those early concepts take shape through cold synths, programmed drums, and bleak melodies. In addition, guitarist Henrik Sandor adds a melancholic post-punk edge. The song explores silence as both refuge and burden. On one hand, silence offers an escape from modern noise. On the other, it reveals how difficult genuine emotional communication can become.
Directed by Simone Pellegrini, the “Words Unspoken” video reinforces those themes through stark industrial imagery. The production takes place inside Den15, a cold warehouse in North London. Consequently, the empty setting reflects the track’s sense of isolation and emotional distance. Night in Athens remains Boleti’s solo project for songwriting and synth production. Still, collaborations such as Sandor’s guitar broaden its sound. Furthermore, Wasted Reflektions builds on the darkwave foundations established by the project’s earlier work. “Words Unspoken” therefore captures Night in Athens at a point where personal history, punk influences, and electronic experimentation meet.
