Today’s video of the day is Slowdive – "Kisses" released in 2023.

Slowdive returned in 2023 with “Kisses,” a glowing new single that proves their sound still evolves. The track arrived on June 20, 2023. Soon after, it became the lead release from their fifth studio album, Everything Is Alive. Slowdive formed in Reading, England, in the late 1980s. They rose quickly during the shoegaze boom. However, they made their name with lush classics like Just for a Day and the legendary Souvlaki. Later, they explored a softer, more ambient direction on Pygmalion. After a long break, they returned strong with their self-titled comeback Slowdive in 2017.

Musically, “Kisses” feels both familiar and fresh. It keeps the band’s dreamy haze. Yet it adds a sharper rhythm and a cleaner pulse. Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell deliver vocals that feel intimate and direct. Meanwhile, the song leans into modern dream pop without losing its shoegaze roots. Because of that balance, it connects naturally to the band’s earlier work. It echoes the emotional sweep of Souvlaki. At the same time, it carries the calm atmosphere of Pygmalion. Still, it sounds brighter and more immediate than past Slowdive singles.

The “Kisses” music video deepens that mood with a cinematic nighttime journey. Director Noel Paul filmed the video in Naples, Italy. Instead of using heavy effects, it focuses on real streets and real motion. A teenager rides through the city on a motorcycle. Along the way, he picks up different passengers. As a result, the video feels like a drifting dream. It matches the song’s themes of change, escape, and emotional release. Ultimately, “Kisses” acts as a new chapter for Slowdive. Yet it also feels like a continuation of everything they built before.
