Today’s video of the day is Skatenigs – "Hell & Back" released in 1994.
Skatenigs return with a vengeance in their 2021 track “Hell & Back,” taken from the album What Could Go Wrong? This explosive song delivers industrial rock chaos with heavy guitars, pounding drums, and gritty vocals. The video matches the song’s aggressive energy, offering a raw visual experience that reflects the band’s signature attitude. Formed in the early ’90s by Phil “Phildo” Owen, Skatenigs blended industrial, punk, and metal into a fierce sonic assault. Their 1992 debut Stupid People Shouldn’t Breed became a cult favorite. Later releases, like Chemical Imbalance and Adult Entertainment for Kids, pushed boundaries even further.
“Hell & Back” stands out as a personal statement from Owen. Originally written years earlier with Al Jourgensen, the track shares roots with “Dead End Streets” from the Revolting Cocks album Cocked and Loaded. That version, however, left out Owen’s original chorus and vision. Now, Skatenigs finally deliver the song as it was meant to be heard. This version of “Hell & Back” features Skatenigs members Myke Bingham, Chris Ahrens, and Adam Lamar. It also includes guest appearances from Riggs (Scum of the Earth, Rob Zombie, Skrew) on guitar and Jason West (Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, Sebastian Bach) on drums. Recorded and mixed at Mosaic Sound Collective, the track roars with gritty authenticity.
The song’s impact goes beyond the album. “Hell and Back Again,” the Ten Feet Tall Remix by The Joy Thieves, appears in the independent film Ana & Mia. The film’s soundtrack, curated by Jacquie Joy, features this powerful remix as part of its emotionally intense score. What Could Go Wrong? marks Skatenigs’ return after a long hiatus. The album showcases their raw, unfiltered approach to industrial punk. “Hell & Back” fits perfectly within the album’s themes of defiance and chaos. It also connects past collaborations with present energy, linking the band’s early Ministry-influenced sound with a modern edge. stalgia and fresh power. Skatenigs prove they haven’t lost their edge—they’ve sharpened it.
