Today’s video of the day is Dance 2 Trance – “Power Of American Natives” released in 1992.
Dance 2 Trance released Power of American Natives in 1992. This German techno duo featured DJ Dag and Rolf Ellmer, also known as Jam El Mar. The song became their biggest hit and is now a classic in electronic music. The track first appeared on Moon Spirits, the duo’s debut album. Initially an instrumental, it struggled to gain traction. However, adding Linda Rocco’s vocals changed everything. Her spoken verses and powerful chorus gave the song a fresh energy. It soon topped dance charts across Europe and sold over 250,000 copies.
The music video played a big role in its success. MTV aired the long video version, mistakenly labeling it as the Quicksilver Mix. The visuals matched the song’s ethereal and tribal-inspired sound. This exposure helped solidify the track’s place in club culture. Critics praised its trance elements and pan pipe samples. James Hamilton from Record Mirror called it a “trancey Hi-NRG galloper.” Music Week highlighted its Jam & Spoon remix, which boosted its club appeal. The song even reached No. 3 on the UK dance charts.
Dance 2 Trance continued experimenting with sound on later releases. Their 1995 album Revival kept the trance energy but leaned into progressive influences. While Power of American Natives remained their most famous track, their work shaped the evolving trance scene. The song saw several remixes over the years. DJ Quicksilver’s 1998 version introduced it to a new generation. Additional remixes in 1997 and 2009 kept it relevant in clubs worldwide. Even decades later, Power of American Natives remains a dancefloor favorite. Linda Rocco reflected in Move Your Body (2 The 90s), saying, “People know exactly who I am on this song. It is still played numerous times a day around the world!”
