Today’s video of the day is the Clan of Xymox – "Fire" released in 2026.
“Fire” brings the signature darkwave sound of Clan of Xymox into focus once again. Released on September 23, 2026, the track arrived as a double A-side single alongside “Broken Heart.” Metropolis Records handled the American release, while Trisol released it in Europe. Moreover, frontman Ronny Moorings explores heartbreak, desire, and emotional intensity through the song’s atmospheric sound. The band also introduced “Fire” during its 2026 tour before its studio release. As a result, the track connects their haunting musical identity with a new chapter in their long career.
Clan of Xymox formed in Amsterdam in 1984 and helped shape the darkwave genre. Initially known simply as Xymox, the band released its self-titled debut album through 4AD in 1985. The album title eventually inspired the group to adopt the Clan of Xymox name. Meanwhile, early support from Dead Can Dance and influential BBC DJ John Peel helped establish their reputation. Their blend of gothic rock, synth-pop, and electronic textures distinguished them from their contemporaries. Later albums, including Medusa (1986), Twist of Shadows (1989), and Hidden Faces (1997), expanded their sound. Consequently, “Fire” draws on a musical legacy spanning four decades while maintaining the emotional atmosphere that defines their work.
Ronny Moorings remains the band’s central creative force, writing and recording much of its music. Over the years, Clan of Xymox has continued to balance melancholic melodies with dark electronic arrangements. However, “Fire” is a 2026 standalone single rather than a confirmed track from a studio album. Its release alongside “Broken Heart” offers another glimpse into Moorings’ continuing exploration of love, loss, and longing. Furthermore, the song reinforces the band’s enduring place in the international darkwave scene. For longtime listeners and new fans alike, “Fire” demonstrates how Clan of Xymox continues to evolve without abandoning its unmistakable gothic atmosphere.
