Today’s video of the day is Black Asteroid – "Dust" released in 2021.
Black Asteroid returned with “Dust,” a crushing industrial techno track from the EP Dust. The release arrived through aufnahme + wiedergabe and pushed Bryan Black deeper into darker club territory. Moreover, the song blends EBM, warehouse techno, and mechanical synth work. Director Stephen Rutterford filmed the clip in Brooklyn during the first COVID lockdown. As a result, the visuals feel cold, tense, and isolated. Furthermore, the underground setting mirrors the song’s bleak rhythm and relentless energy.
Bryan Black first gained recognition working with Prince at Paisley Park. Later, he moved into underground electronic music and launched Black Asteroid. He also created sound design for fashion figures like Rick Owens and Raf Simons. Over time, Black Asteroid built a reputation for aggressive techno mixed with industrial textures. The Dust EP continues that direction. However, it feels harsher and more stripped down than earlier releases. Tracks like “Muscle” and “Turbine” expand the project’s brutal warehouse sound. Meanwhile, the Liebknecht remix adds a faster and more club-focused edge.
The Dust EP connects naturally with the rest of Black Asteroid’s catalog. Earlier releases explored dark techno and EBM influences. However, Dust sounds more claustrophobic and cinematic. In addition, the production feels sharper and heavier throughout. Songs rely on pounding percussion, distorted synths, and hypnotic repetition. Therefore, the EP fits perfectly beside Black Asteroid’s previous industrial dance releases while pushing the sound into darker territory. Fans of underground techno, body music, and industrial electronics will find plenty to absorb in this release.
