Today’s video of the day is In Trance 95 – “Wave (Are We Alone)” released in 2011.

The video for “Wave (Are We Alone)” by In Trance 95 captures a haunting, minimal aesthetic. Released in 2011, the track marks the band’s return after years of silence. It offers a glimpse into their evolving sound, blending cold wave textures with modern electronic production. In Trance 95 formed in Athens in 1988. Founding members Alex Machairas and Nik Veliotis were the first in Greece to use only electronic instruments. Between 1988 and 1991, they released rare and now-cult records. These include their debut 7-inch Desire to Desire/Brazilia and their 1990 album Code of Obsession. Both records appeared on small indie labels and are now hard to find.

Nik left the group in 1992. The band continued briefly with George Geranios until splitting in 1996. In 2006, Alex attempted a revival under the name Itenef. This version featured George and Magda Sverlander on synths. Around this time, Alex also rebuilt their studio, Airdawn. In 2010, In Trance 95 officially reformed. Alex and Nik returned, joined by Magda and Anna Athanasouli for live shows. That year, they began recording a new album called Abovearth, set for release in late 2011.

“Wave (Are We Alone)” appears on Abovearth. The track bridges their classic minimal synth sound with deeper, atmospheric layers. It feels more introspective yet remains true to their roots. The song shows growth while staying connected to their early work. In the same period, they also worked with Minimal Wave to release Cities of Steel and Neon. That album collects early demo tapes, remixed and remastered. It offers a raw view of their past. Together, both albums frame the band’s journey—from underground pioneers to a mature, revived force in electronic music.

The video for “Wave (Are We Alone)” reflects the song’s tone. Stark visuals and slow pacing match the track’s eerie, searching mood. It invites viewers to reflect and wonder, “Are we alone?” This track, and its video, mark a bold chapter for In Trance 95. It connects past, present, and future with haunting beauty.
