Today’s video of the day is Trent & Mariqueen Reznor, Atticus Ross w/ The Alumni Band – "Fashion" released in 2021.

In January 2021, a special performance united two generations of musical innovators. Trent Reznor, Mariqueen Maandig Reznor, and Atticus Ross joined The Alumni Band to cover David Bowie’s “Fashion.” The recording was created for A Bowie Celebration, an online tribute event honoring Bowie’s legacy. Reznor delivered lead vocals with his signature intensity. Mariqueen added ethereal backing harmonies, while Ross crafted the arrangement, programming, and mixing. Their performance gained extra depth through Bowie’s longtime collaborators. Pianist Mike Garson and guitarist Carlos Alomar, both essential to Bowie’s classic sound, played central roles. This collaboration connected Bowie’s original 1980 vision with a 2021 reinterpretation.

Trent Reznor is best known as the founder of Nine Inch Nails. Since the late 1980s, the band has released groundbreaking albums such as Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral. His partnership with Atticus Ross began in film scoring, leading to their Academy Award-winning work on The Social Network. Together, Reznor and Ross have since become a vital duo, balancing Nine Inch Nails projects with acclaimed soundtracks.

Mariqueen Maandig Reznor is a key figure in How to Destroy Angels, a project formed with Trent and Atticus in 2010. Their debut album, Welcome Oblivion, blended electronic textures with Mariqueen’s vocals. While “Fashion” is not part of a Nine Inch Nails or How to Destroy Angels album, it connects to their history of reimagining music with experimental layers and emotional intensity. This cover also highlights Reznor’s deep ties to Bowie. Nine Inch Nails toured with Bowie in 1995 during the Outside era. Bowie’s influence has remained a thread throughout Reznor’s career. By revisiting “Fashion” with his wife and longtime collaborator, Reznor paid tribute while keeping Bowie’s spirit alive for new audiences. This performance stands outside a traditional album release, but its impact resonates. It bridges past and present, showing how Bowie’s art continues to inspire new interpretations.
