Today’s video of the day is God Bullies – "Cemetary" released in 1990.

“Cemetary” by God Bullies arrived in 1990 as part of their album Mama Womb Womb. The track captured the band’s unsettling mix of noise rock, theatrical vocals, and unfiltered chaos. Its raw energy reflected the darker edges of underground rock at the time. God Bullies formed in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1986. The original lineup featured Mike Hard on vocals, Tommy Shannon on guitar, Adam Berg on drums, and Mike Corso on bass. Over the years, several members rotated in and out, but Hard’s intense stage presence remained constant. The group became notorious for shocking live performances that blurred the line between music and theater.

By 1990, they had already built a strong reputation through Amphetamine Reptile Records. Mama Womb Womb solidified their place in the noise rock scene, standing alongside peers like Cows, Helmet, and the Melvins. “Cemetary” fit seamlessly with the album’s disturbing imagery and confrontational style. It also linked back to their earlier work, continuing themes of death, religion, and American decay. God Bullies never achieved mainstream success, but songs like “Let’s Go to Hell,” “Ordinary Man,” and “Cemetary” earned them a devoted cult following. Their tours with Hole, Helios Creed, and Tar expanded their reach across the U.S. and Europe. Fans connected with their fearless approach and Mike Hard’s provocative delivery.

After their initial breakup in 1995, the band briefly reunited in 2010 for Amphetamine Reptile’s 25th Anniversary concert. That lineup reignited interest in their catalog and showcased how powerful their songs remained decades later. In 2024, God Bullies reformed once more. This new lineup included Hard alongside musicians from his other project, Thrall. They recorded As Above So Below at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio, marking their first new studio album in decades. The release proved their legacy continues to evolve while still honoring their chaotic roots. The video for “Cemetary” highlights everything fans loved about God Bullies: unsettling atmosphere, raw intensity, and fearless showmanship. It remains one of their most iconic tracks, bridging their early noise rock experiments with the later confrontational style that defined their career.
