Today’s video of the day is Nitzer Ebb – "So Bright So Strong" released in 1983.

Nitzer Ebb‘s rare early video for “So Bright So Strong” has resurfaced. Filmed in the mid-’80s, it offers a raw look at the band’s origins. Shot in a barn near Chelmsford, UK, the clip features founding members Bon Harris, Douglas McCarthy, and drummer David Gooday. The video was created by Chris Piper, the band’s first manager. He manually synced the track using two VHS machines. It’s a fan-made artifact, full of youthful energy. The trio dances with sharp EBM style, echoing their contemporaries like Front 242. There’s no polished aggression yet—just raw spirit. “So Bright So Strong” appears on Basic Pain Procedure, Nitzer Ebb’s 1983 debut cassette. That release laid the foundation for the group’s future sound. It’s more minimal than later albums like Belief or Showtime, but still intense.

Pylon Records unearthed the video as part of their 2018 box set campaign. The 10-LP collection spans the band’s entire catalog from 1982 to 2010. It includes remastered versions of all five Geffen/Mute albums—That Total Age, Belief, Showtime, Ebbhead, and Big Hit—plus five LPs of bonus tracks and rarities. The box set, released on October 5, 2018, celebrates Nitzer Ebb’s evolution. From sparse beginnings to stadium-ready EBM, the band always pushed boundaries. This early clip captures their passion before the polish. It’s a raw document of their explosive potential.

In addition, Pylon filmed interviews with the band. They reflect on their journey and the box set’s creation. For longtime fans, this is a rare and meaningful glimpse into the band’s early days. “So Bright So Strong” remains a vital part of the band’s legacy. The new video brings it back into focus. For fans of classic EBM, this is essential viewing.
