Today’s video of the day is Cubanate – “Kolossus” released in 2019.

The video for “Kolossus” marks a bold return for Cubanate. Released in 2019 on Armalyte Industries, it’s their first new material in over 20 years. Founding members Marc Heal and Phil Barry reunited with explosive energy. The result? An EP that bridges past and present. Cubanate formed in 1992 and quickly made an impact with their aggressive mix of electronic and industrial rock. Their 1993 debut Antimatter featured the single “Body Burn,” which later appeared in The Sopranos. Their 1995 album Cyberia included “Oxyacetylene,” a fan favorite used in the Gran Turismo video game. They followed up with Barbarossa in 1996 and Interference in 1998 before taking a long hiatus.

After a cold stop in 1998, Cubanate returned to the stage in 2016 at Coldwaves in Chicago. Live shows helped reignite their creative spark. The experience led to the creation of Kolossus in 2019. The Kolossus EP includes five new tracks, along with remixes by Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly) and DROWND. The sound is fresh yet rooted in the band’s signature aggression. According to Heal, they didn’t plan a full album. Instead, they focused on finishing a few solid tracks to break the silence. The title track, “Kolossus,” channels Cubanate’s classic rage but with sharper production and modern edge. It stands apart from their earlier albums but keeps their core intensity intact.

Technology helped make the reunion possible. Heal lives in the US, while Barry remains in the UK. Despite the distance, the band found freedom in digital collaboration. Yet their chemistry remains raw and instinctive. The video for “Kolossus” adds visual force to the music’s power. It shows that Cubanate are not just back—they’ve evolved. The EP doesn’t erase the past. Instead, it builds on it. After two decades, Cubanate sound like they never left. Kolossus connects the fury of Interference with the precision of now. It’s a perfect reintroduction to a band that shaped industrial rock—and still has more to say.
