Today’s video of the day is Cause & Effect – “It’s Over Now” released in 1994.
Cause & Effect, formed in 1990 in California, gained attention with their unique blend of synth-pop. The original lineup included Robert Rowe and Sean Rowley. However, tragedy struck in 1992 when Sean Rowley died of a heart attack, triggered by an asthma attack on stage. After this devastating loss, Richard Shepherd and Keith Milo joined Robert Rowe to continue the band’s legacy. The song It’s Over Now was released in 1994 on their album Trip. This album marked a pivotal moment for the band, reflecting their resilience and evolution after Rowley’s passing. The song’s lyrics and tone carry a sense of finality, aligning with the album’s themes of change and closure. It’s Over Now resonates with the band’s journey, blending melancholic lyrics with electronic beats. The music video for It’s Over Now was filmed on location in Mexico City, directed by Cameron Casey. The vibrant backdrop of Ciudad de Mexico contrasts with the song’s introspective theme, adding a visual depth that highlights the band’s artistic growth.
Trip stands as a testament to Cause & Effect’s ability to adapt and move forward despite loss. The album showcases a more mature sound compared to their earlier work, such as their debut album Another Minute. While Another Minute introduced their synth-driven style, Trip dives deeper into emotional and thematic complexity. Unfortunately, Cause & Effect dissolved in April 2020. Yet, their music, particularly tracks like It’s Over Now, continues to echo their journey and influence in the electronic music scene.
